Press release on demonstration in Goma: Calling upon the organizers to spear IDPs from the demobstration
PRESS RELEASE: WE REMIND EVERYONE THAT INTERNAL DISPLACED PERSONS IN CAMPS AROUND ARE NOT AN ENVIRONMENTS FOR POLITICAL AND MILITARY ACTIVITIES.
Demonstrators in Goma today Monday February 19th, 2024 burning the USA Flag as they accuse the USA of being behind Rwanda
Following a day of demonstration scheduled for this Monday 02/19/2024 in Goma and its surroundings, the Collective of Youth Organizations for Solidarity of Congo Kinshasa COJESKI/RDC Coordination of North Kivu, informs the public in general and the organizers in particular to refrain from involving Internally Displaced Persons around Goma in this demonstration because the use of Internally Displaced People in Camps for political purposes can constitute a crime against humanity.
Already in a situation of vulnerability, these Internally Displaced Persons need our protection and must only be beneficiaries of our solidarity actions and not the opposite. We also remind the public that in December 2023, we mobilized en masse to vote for leaders who must secure and protect us but also defend the territorial integrity of the DRC.
It is our duty to ask those we have mandated to report to us.
And finally, a video would have circulated in social networks and would be attributed to the Military Governor of North Kivu in which he would have alluded to respect for the hierarchical order and discipline in the army, and that the army would not yet have had orders to wage war. Carrying out activities to push the army to take actions that would be contrary to this hierarchical directive, would more benefit the enemies of the DRC. We therefore ask that we make a lot of effort to request these accounts from those we have given the mandate.
